We are excited to be joining with the Cantonese congregation at 9:30am in the Sanctuary for Palm Sunday service followed by a joint baptism service with all 3 congregations at 11:00am in the Sanctuary to celebrate our friends publicly declaring their love and trust in Jesus!

Please note there will be NO Sunday School (11:15am | 2nd hr) that day for adults or children so bring the whole family!

Our next baptism class starts Sunday February 4th, 1pm-2pm in room 203. Classes will run for 5 weeks until Sunday March 3rd. Our next baptismal service will be on Sunday March 24th.

Baptism not only signifies resurrection to a new life in Christ, but it is also a public commitment to walk in Christ’s way. Baptism means we now belong to Christ. Have you been considering baptism but not sure what it means?

What is Baptism?
Baptism is closely linked with belief in the New Testament, and therefore happens at the beginning of someone’s journey as a disciple of Jesus (Acts 2:38-41), and is therefore considered a symbol of initiation into a life of following Jesus with other followers of Jesus. We are united with Christ and enjoy all the benefits that come therein (Romans 6:1-11).

Who Should Be Baptized?
Those who have accepted Christ as their personal Saviour and Lord. Those seeking membership with SCCEFC are required to be baptized as a believer.

Why Should I Be Baptized?
Believe and baptize are very closely linked. (Acts 2:40-41; 8:36-40; 10:48; 16:15; 16:33).  Jesus showed by example that we are to be baptized by being baptized himself (Matthew 3:13-17). Baptism is understood to fulfill, in part, the command of Jesus to confess him before humanity (Matthew 10:32).

PLAN TO PROTECT TRAINING

Plan to Protect - designed to protect our children and youth, as well as our volunteers.

If you are interested in helping out in children, youth, senior, and special needs ministries, and have regularly attended SCCEFC meetings for at least six months, come get your PTP training to get you prepared for abuse awareness and prevention.

Every year after the week of Christmas, children's classes go on break for FAMILY WORSHIP! Each congregation will host a service that includes the entire family:

Join us for a year end English Congregation indoor skate with friends and family for a fun casual gathering to celebrate the Christmas season. Bring your skates and helmet or come in your boots with snacks. Either way we look forward to catching up on the ice or on the bench!

All three congregations will celebrate the birth of our king Sunday December 24th 10:30am in the Sanctuary. Overflow seating will be in the chapel. Refreshments to follow in the lobby. Children and teens Sunday school will be on break until January 2024.

We are excited to announce the baptism of Alex Lee, Orian Welling and Hazel Ma from the English congregation! You can hear them speak about their faith journey in the chapel at 9:30am. Their baptism will follow at 11:15am in the Sanctuary.

Here’s what happened during COMM3 2022 - getting ready for a new line up for COMM3 2023!

What is this event about?

This year will be our inaugural one-day conference focusing on the art of communication and creative endeavours within the church.

Speakers: Throughout the day, you will hear from presenters who are part of SCCEFC's various communication ministries sharing their insights about their ministries and creative work.

This annual conference has three focal points:

Communication: Cases studies, technical learnings, workflows, innovations & trends related to communication and creative ministries.

Communion: An intentional time and space for cross-congregational and cross-discipline learnings, alignment and collaborations.

Commission: Building disciples and not just technicians and craftsmen.

Who is it for?

This event is designed for everyone—students or adults—who are interested in the craft of communication and creative/design ministries within the church. It is also a time for our cross-congregational communication and creative teams [AV/Social Media/Web/Creative/Tech] to be equipped and cross-learn from each other. If you are looking to join one of our communication teams, whether it is social media, website, AV, or design/production, this would be the perfect event to get to know our teams and how you can be part of this exciting ministry!

Our hope is for every person in our church family to be taken care of and plugged into community! Our GroupLink event is a joint event that happens ~2 times a year. These events provide a time for our community groups to meet with one another and a time where newcomers and those without a group can find a prospective group to join.

Come and mingle, meet friends, leaders and check out which community life group is right for you. Grouplink will be on Oct 21st (Sat) 7 PM, chapel foyer. You can preview which groups are available at the moment, we hope we will have more groups open by Oct, or families at GroupLink can form a new one!

Given our church’s unique location in the city, what do we do and how do we respond when we encounter our neighbours who are experiencing homelessness? How do we respond lovingly and appropriately as individuals and as a church?

Please join us for a workshop presented by Alpha House Society on “Engaging Vulnerable Persons”. Topics will include:

• Information about factors that lead to homelessness & addiction

• Discussion on the stigma associated with homelessness & addiction

• Information on recognizing how & when to navigate interactions with our unhoused neighbours

• Learnings about free resources available to community & when to utilize them

Alpha House Society is a non-profit, charitable agency providing safe and caring environments for individuals whose lives are affected by alcohol and other substance dependencies

The meeting will start promptly at 1:30pm Sunday September 27th in the Sanctuary.

Agapeland is an afternoon gathering that runs every 2nd and 4th Saturday 4:30pm-6:15pm for kids ages 4 to Grade 6, kicking off September 9th 2023 and running through June 2024. Come and make friends, learn bible stories, sing songs and craft! Registration link will go live Saturday July 22nd at 8am.

Bring your chairs, frisbees, balls, gloves, a picnic lunch and your best Canadian paraphrenelia (eh!) as we come together to greet old buddies, make new friends and celebrate Canada Day!
