The Roma people are traditionally known as the gypsies. This ethnic group is thought to have originated from India or Egypt in the 11th century. Today the Roma people are spread out all over Europe and exist at the lowest rungs of society. Their identity is often blurred and ethnic tensions prevail no matter where they settle.
