We are currently preparing lessons and materials for a five day (10am-4pm) VBS camp for the children residing at the House of Mercy the first week we are there. Materials will be adopted and translated from the Canadian VBS that SCCEFC is is running just a few weeks prior to this trip. There are three individuals at the House of Mercy who is able to interpret for all our lessons and activities -- we are very thankful for them!In the second week we will be holding two day (10am-noon) gospel camp for the children in Romani settlements. What will be complicated is the fact the Romani speak Hungarian though they reside in Ukraine. We will need to find an English/Hungarian interpreter...or a Ukrainian/Hungarian interpreter after our English/Ukrainian interpreter conveys our message. Please pray for God's provision in this.
In the afternoon/evenings of the second week we will also be at the House of Mercy providing extracurricular training (music, English or sports) as well as leading discipleship/bedside fellowship sessions for the children.
We will also be taking the staff on a one day retreat to pass on whatever teaching/disciplinary/vision setting/medical/etc skills our team members might have. The House of Mercy staff are actually not professionally trained in running an orphanage....nor are they seminary trained...nor were they teachers by profession previously. The staff were all lead into this as their hearts followed after God's leading. Their faithfulness and dedication is amazing!
Though this is our plan so far, we fully acknowledge that God's plan will prevail so we aim to be flexible as circumstances change. A bit of a challenge for schedule-driven Canadians like ourselves...but that's where you can lift us up in prayer as well.
Blessings!
